CIRES Proposals would like to inform you of the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and the Office of the Provost’s 2025 Research & Innovation Seed Grant program opportunity.

The Research & Innovation Seed Grant program is a funding initiative offered by the University of Colorado Boulder’s Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and overseen by the Office of the Provost, designed to stimulate new areas of research, scholarship, and creative endeavors on campus by providing seed funding to faculty members with promising innovative research ideas. The 2025 iteration of this program is currently accepting proposals, with a deadline of January 20, 2025. The maximum budget request is $60,000, with a project duration of up to 18 months.

July 1, 2025 – December 31, 2026 Project period

Budget

  • Maximum Budget Request: $60,000
  • Co-PIs can be paid as long as they are CU faculty. Collaborators from other institutions may not be paid.
  • For External Partnership projects, requests can be up to $60,000, provided the external partner provides a 1:1 match up to $25,000. Thus, the total budget could be up to $85,000, with $60,000 from CU Boulder and $25,000 from the external partner.
  • Project Duration: Up to 18 months.
